There are a few main characters in this book, but the one I'm going to write about is Anna. The youngest child who was "made" so that she was able to help her sister survive leukemia and donate her lymphocytes, kidney, etc. Anna ends up taking her parents to court because of all the medical treatments they have put her through to try to help Kate and because they want her to donate her kidney to her, but she doesn't want too. The reason she does this is because she feels hurt, betrayed, and not loved. She always thinks about how her parents made sure her genetics matched up perfectly with Kate's and that if Kate wasn't sick she wouldn't even be here. They never pay attention, listen or do anything with her. Its always all about Kate. She felt like a ghost.
Once they started the trial it started to get really interesting. Kate had a lot of thoughts running through her head and many mixed emotions. She didn't know what to think or what was going to happen. They are still in the middle of the trial still so I'm not sure how it will end.
Anna is kind of her own person. Since Kate is sick her family is just a mess. They hardly see her brother Jesse and her parents are always with Kate. She usually has to follow along with them and can't do much. She loves her sister but sometimes it just really gets frustrating for Kate. They all have a lot of good memories though from the past. They always look at pictures and try to remember all the good times that they have had and when Kate wasn't sick. But since Kate has always been sick for Anna's who life so Anna hasn't had that great of a childhood. She started playing hockey and was very good at it. But there were times her parents couldn't make it to her events or Kate got admitted to the hospital so she couldn't go. Anna finally got fed up with it and that's why she took them to court. If I was in the same shoes as Anna I would probably do the same thing. She was sick of having medical procedures done without being asked. She just wanted to have a family that showed her they loved her. She's only 13, she has her whole life ahead of her.
I don't know anyone who has had to go through this or anything like that but Anna has obviously had a rough life and just wants to be happy. She wants the best for her sister but its just hard to keep giving her all of these things and going through procedures she doesn't want to do. Anna has feelings too.
