My experience so far on the book My Forbidden Face
is how thing change literally overnight for women under the Taliban rules in
soviet occupied Afghanistan. The testimony
of the author, who lived in Kabul when the Taliban turned it upside down, tells
of the dark reality of how this oppressive regime shouts the voices of women. Female
faces were to be unseen, concealed behind a burka, they were banned from
leaving their homes without a male relative, and they were also banned from
work, school, and public life. For example, the author had planned on pursuing
journalism, but when the Taliban took over she was forced to observe and make
sense of what was happening to women.
I could not engage the book immediately, because I have
some assignment to do. However, reading the book make me feel sad and disturbed
for women under the Taliban rules, because of the horrors and injustices that occurred
against women. I think they were basically trying to eliminate women. For example,
white is the color of the Taliban flag, so women are not allowed to wear white.
I agree with you, Elijah, I feel sad and disturbed for woman in many parts of our world. This is a very interesting book, and I'm glad you are finding it interesting. I will look forward to more of your posts about the book.
